ARTIST STATEMENT

Such a vacuum, our mind inhales and records each moment and perception from experience around. It collects and become a coagulator, where finally bring it out, and which is done by me to produce my artworks.

I create a deep perception angle of our life; seeing the nature and human have connected and interact with one another. Memories, glimpses and experiences will interpret through to express impetus onto the canvas. Those images collection and surrounding objects been delivered through my artwork.

Through process of experimental called 'self expression'; consumption as: colour, brush stroke, drip, splash, texture, accidental, colours, brush stroke, structure, line, incision and form are some elements that producing my art work. This is the way I translate a deep feeling appearing onto something surface. In comparison; musician to a song's note or poet to a sheet of paper.

Reputed begin since the year of 1940s, abstract flew election via 'abstract expressionist' spearheaded like Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Arshile Gorky and 'Action Painting' as those ever produced by Jackson Pollock as a references of my artworks.

Abstraction gives a freedom to compose without pinioned to something image or particular certain object only. It challenges the process of mind creation, involve for expression painter without having a restriction; doing experimental in creating. These kind of arts are in ongoing discussion, of course with some interpretation by people.

Each of my artworks are relevant with one another narration angle of, theme and procedure of production. One suggestion for the completion of the work is when my feeling has seen enough elements succeed decorated in full or part of it, although it is not as a totally final satisfaction of creation.

Every work has deep limits in production. There are neither end nor a full stop in it narration produce of my artworks. It will continuously produces. Abstraction is the best way to express what is in person. Each experiences from the deep perception towards life are as much as artworks.  

 

 

"In the meantime I have several (series) of artworks. Some series are related to one another and some are individuals. My series are "Hikayat Series", "Tribe Series", "Trap Series", "Glimpse Series", "Landscape Series" and other series. "

 

HIKAYAT SERIES / MYTH SERIES

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa or The Kedah Annals is an ancient Malay literature that chronicles the bloodline of Merong Mahawangsa the founder of the Kedah, state in Malaysia. Though there are historic accuracies and myth that makes many incredulous assertions.

manatworkThe era covered by the text ranged from the opening of Kedah by Merong Mahawangsa. This is a heritage of fabulous myths and legends of ogres and garuda (gigantic birds / demigod), warriors and fairy princesses, battles and romance.

I paint this series with my imagination how the myth story from the texts of Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa can be transformed onto canvas. I also add Jawi text (traditional Malay text), which this Hikayat have been written on to my paintings.

 

 

MENGIMBAU SERIES  [GLIMPSE SERIES]

This series is about a glimpse of my childhood. As I have been raised at fisher village, name Kuala Kedah, life of childhood had many memories.

manatworkMy playground was along a river, play with mud, catch Belangkas (horse shoe crab), run onto planter, making kites, catch fish and boating. All these memories sometimes glimpse over my head.

I tried to remember all those memories in my childhood when I paint about this series.

 

 

TRIBE SERIES

manatworkTribe Series is about life of a tribal society around the world. Refer to their equipment like; shield, accessories, mask, spear, painting, colors, crafts, tool and form that they have been used in their living life.

Refer to all this equipment, I rearrange it with composition and form in my own perception. Some paintings are about their believed and thought.

 

 

TRAP SERIES (Bubu / Perangkap)

This concept refers to "Bubu" (traditional fish trap) itself and its connection with humans life, I interpret the "Bubu" as a symbol of life. In man's life, experiencing fear, pain, difficulties, anger, manatworkhappiness, sadness, humiliated, greedy, loneliness and ego are normal. Those feelings are related to one another.

Every incident of our life could be favorable or in otherwise, depending on ways and mean of each individual facing it. I paint this series with the element of "Bubu" such as structure, shape, form, texture combined with human expression and movement as subjects in my artworks.

 

THE MYSTICAL JOURNEY SERIES

manatworkThis series is about our journey in our life. The important thing is how we manage our life and how the journey of our soul goes through it. This is about a journey to find something good that already in ours.

Finding is difficult. Sometimes you can touch and feel it and sometimes you don't. This is a reality of our life. Searching. If all of us know what and why God are creating us, then we will know our job in here. Did our lives are accompanied to our Creator or our life just a life.
